GROOVY GRADUATES
We are the Year 7, Room 10 class at Wattle Grove Primary for 2014. Our class has 17 girls and 10 boys. Most of us have been at Wattle Grove for 5 years or more. Some of us became Student Reps in Term 1 and we have different jobs and responsibilities to conduct on a daily basis. We are looking forward to the school sports carnivals and the end of year school camp at Kalgoorlie.

Year 7 Camp to Kalgoorlie
During week 3 this term, Year 7's had the opportunity to board the Prospector train and head for the goldfields, Kalgoorlie was our destination. We spent 5 full days out in the Goldfields, which included a variety of activities, history and even weather. We experienced a number of seasons within our five days. We had a thunderstorm, rain, wind, heat (36 degrees) and even a couple of cool evenings. But apart from all of that, we had a fabulous week. We visited so many places, these included the Royal Flying Doctor, Weather Station, Coolgardie, Boulder, two old hotels (Palace and Federation), which were full of history and even a mine shaft inside one of them. We learnt about how the miners lived in the past and how difficult their lives would have been for them and their families.

KAGAN STRATEGIES IN ROOM 10
Throughout the year, students in Room 10 use cooperative strategies within their learning. These strategies assist students during the collaborative sessions within their Learning teams. The strategies used are based on Kagan Collaborative skills. Here are some examples used by the students in Room 10.
Students using the strategy 'INSIDE, OUTSIDE CIRCLE'.
This was used to discuss their personal ideas about Global Warming.
After their discussion on Global Warming outside the classroom, the students then came back into the classroom and wrote all the different points about their topic in dot form on their individual white boards.
After a set amount of time, the students then used the strategy of 'Show Down' and displayed their answers for discussion to the other members within their collaborative group.

During week 3 we had the opportunity to spend time with our 'Buddy' class. Room 21 is our Buddy class and they are a Year 2 class. Room 21 came into our classroom to show us their 'Animal Profile', they had been working on. Many students from room 21 wrote fascinating facts about worms, millipedes, grasshoppers, butterflies and praying mantis. They drew some pictures and read their 'Animal Profiles' to the Year 7's from our classroom.

WATTLE GROVE HAS TALENT
During Term 2, Wattle Grove held their annual talent show. Once again we had the opportunity to see some fantastic acts. Some of these included singers, dancers, pianists and a hoola hoop act.
Syanne and Tanisha, from Room 10, sang as a duo and then Shyanne sang as a solo act.
Well done girls, everyone from Room 10 was very proud of you for performing in front of the whole school and parents.
MARS ONE
Students in Years 6 and 7 were extremely lucky to receive a visit from Josh Richards. Josh is in the running for the opportunity to go to Mars on the Mars One expedition. Josh informed the students about the experiences he had already gone through to become short selected. He also told the students, it was a one way trip. There would be NO returning to Earth. This made the students think of many questions to ask Josh. They couldn't imagine how difficult it would be to never see their families again. Many questions were asked about the training required and about how Josh and the crew would grow food and survival skills. Josh showed pictures of the cubicles the staff would live in and how every two years a set of new crew would be expected to arrive on Mars.
We thank Josh and Mr Petch for the opportunity to have this visit at wattle Grove Primary, I'm sure it was an incursion the students will remember for a very long time.
Thankyou to Josh Richards, and we wish you all the best in the selection process for Mars One.

Thanks Josh, we hope your dream comes true and you make it to Mars.
